At least two civil servants in Kotido district are facing disciplinary action over their alleged involvement in partisan politics.

Without disclosing details of the affected officers, Donato Oola, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), said he initiated the disciplinary action after receiving complaints from the community accusing them of participating in the recently concluded National Resistance Movement (NRM) party structure elections.

He said that the implicated officers will appear before the District Reward and Sanctions Committee to give their defense.

“We have decided to summon them over numerous complaints against them,” Oola told Etoil A Karamoja during an interview in his office recently.

He explained that the action is in line with the guidelines set by the Civil Service Commission, which prohibits government employees from engaging in partisan political activities.

“While civil servants have a right to their political beliefs and the right to vote, they are not allowed to publicly endorse or support a party, candidate, or policy, or get involved in political disputes,” Oola added.

He said that in pursuance of the objective of rewards and sanction framework issued under circular Standing Instructions No.1 of 2011, the district committee will meet and handle the case.

Oola emphasized the importance of public servants maintaining neutrality and adhering to the standards of the civil service.

Etoil A Karamoja has learned that if the implicated officers are found guilty, they may face penalties such as interdiction, demotions, or a caution.
