James Tweheyo, one of the Commissioners of the NRM Electoral Commission, has confirmed that the party has received a petition from Moses Bildad Adome, former Member of Parliament for Jie County.
Adome is challenging the victory of Peter Lonya in the recent NRM party structures election in Kotido Municipality, citing 13 grounds for nullification.
Speaking on Saturday, Tweheyo confirmed the petition’s receipt and the assignment of a committee to review its merits.
He stated that if the petition has reasonable grounds, it will be heard and resolved, regardless of subsequent district party elections.
In his petition, Adome alleges that candidates were not provided with NRM election guidelines and that the official venue was changed on election day, disenfranchising voters and candidates.
He also claims voter intimidation and that some of his supporters were denied access to the electoral area.
When contacted, Paul Namuya, the NRM registrar of Kotido, acknowledged awareness of the petition but noted he hadn’t formally received it, as petitions are handled at the headquarters.
