The contractors awarded contractors to undertake Shs222 million infrastructure projects in Longaroe Sub-county, Kotido district are in trouble after the RDC Charles Ichogor declined to commission the projects over incomplete and shoddy works.
In the financial year 2025/2026, Kotido district contracted Upright Construction Limited and AAG Constructors to renovate two staff house blocks and construct a two-stance pit latrine at Lopuyo health centre II, at costs of Shs 45 million and Shs49 million respectively.
The district also awarded Bama Wells Africa Limited, a contract to drill a borehole in Nakwanamor village at a cost of Shs35 million, while the construction of a produce storage facility valued at Shs93 million was awarded to Omax General Services Limited.
These projects, according to the district officials, were meant to be completed before the end of the 2025/2026 financial year.
However, the district officials led by the Resident District Commissioner, Charles Ichogor, on Thursday September 3, 2026, were shocked after discovering that all the projects were incomplete, the work done was substandard, and the contractors were not present at the sites.
Ichogor expressed disappointment over the discrepancies between the paperwork, prior communications from heads of departments, and the actual site work.
As a result, he suspended commissioning of the said projects and other projects implemented in the 2025/2026 financial year, across the district.
He directed the contractors in absentia to complete the incomplete works and correct glaring defects cited during the monitoring within one-week so that the projects can be officially commissioned.
Patrick Ochan, the Kotido district Assistant Engineer, disclosed that contractors were notified a month in advance to prepare for commissioning of their respective project, but they chose not to show up.
Emmanuel Oyuku Ochen, the Kotido Chief Administrative Officer, stated that the projects were two months behind agreed completion time-frame.
