Nabilatuk District has made history by winning both the under-14 boys’ and under-12 girls’ handball titles at the recently concluded 2026 National Kids Ball Games Championship.
The 10-day event, organized by the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA), took place in Mubende District from August 24 to September 4, drawing 156 young athletes from government and private primary schools across Uganda.
Competitions included football, netball, volleyball, handball, and the newly introduced Kho-Kho and Wood ball, aimed at broadening participation and preparing students for the upcoming FEASSA Games.
Nabilatuk’s under-14 boys handball team shocked many by defeating Otuke District 14-6 in the finals, while the under-12 girls team clinched a narrow victory over Buikwe District with a 14-11 score.
Kevin Wakise, a sports teacher at Lolachat Primary School and Vice Chairperson of the Karamoja Regional Primary Schools Sports Association, said that Nabilatuk received two trophies and 22 medals.
Moroto District also performed well, securing 12 medals in handball and Kho-Kho for the under-12 boys category.
Looking ahead, Nabilatuk’s winning teams will represent Uganda at the 2027 FEASSA Games in Kigali, Rwanda.
As they prepare for intensive training, Wakise encouraged parents to support and nurture their children’s sports talents for their development and success.
