The Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) has confirmed dates for the 4th Edition of Emorimor Cup, outlining dates, preparations for the major cultural tournament.
The Emorimor Cup, launched in 2023 is an annual sports tournament held on rotational basis commemorate the coronation anniversary of His Royal Highness Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, the Paramount Chief of the Iteso people.
Speaking to Etoil A Karamoja Sports Desk, Stephen Ojacor, the Minister of Information and official spokesperson for the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) said that this year’s edition will be held in Teso, Kenya from October 29th to 31st, 2026.
He revealed that so far 48 football clubs have confirmed their participation after fulfilling subscription obligation of Shs250,000 each.
Ojacor said the 2026 edition, Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng has introduced a new clan-based competition system where clan teams will compete at district level, with the best two teams qualifying for the zonal level, followed by regional and national competitions.
“The 4th Edition brings together 7 major clans and 1,556 sub-clans across the 16 districts of the Teso Sub-region, providing a platform for young people and communities to connect, showcase talent, celebrate culture, promote peace and strengthen unity” he remarked.
The teams compete in football, netball, volleyball and handball, and winners in each category, according to Ojacor, will be awarded trophies, medals and a cash prize of Shs1 million.
Ojacor said that the grand finals to be played in Amagoro Division, Teso North in Busia County Kenya, will be graced by President William Ruto as the Chief guest.
“The Emorimor Cup began four years ago as part of Papa Emorimor’s vision to use sports as a tool for mobilising and uniting young people and communities across Teso, while promoting cultural pride and creating greater awareness of the work of the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU)”, Ojacor explained.
