Police in Kaabong district have launched a manhunt for two thugs who attacked and robbed a motorcycle Reg.No. KMGX 554X from Joseph Nalibe, aged 27, a resident of Mutunani camp in Timu Sub-county.

ASP Drake Twinamastko, the Officer In-Charge Kaabong Central Police Station, told this publication that the incident occurred on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at around 3:00 p.m along Mutunani-Lopedo Road.

“Police preliminary investigations indicate that the thugs, who disguised themselves as passengers, hired Nalibe from Kaabong town to take them to Mutunani gold mine at a fee of Shs40, 000, Twinamastko stated.

According to ASP Twinamastko, when they reached one of the valleys, the duo still at large, requested the rider to stop, claiming they wanted to ease themselves.

He added that when Nalibe stopped one of the thugs jumped on his neck and strangled him with a new nylon rope.

ASP Twinamastko observed after the victim fell unconscious, the thugs then tied him like a dead person before fleeing of with his Kenyan motorcycle valued at Shs5.6 million.

According to him, police have since registered a case of aggravated robbery and commenced investigations into the incident.

“The police and other security agencies are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen motorcycle”, said ASP Twinamastko, calling on members of the public with any information that could aid investigations to share it confidentially with police or other security authorities to support efforts toward the arrest and prosecution of the culprits.

Aggravated robbery remains a serious offence under section 286 (2) of the Penal Code Act, often involving the use of weapons or violence, and carries severe penalties upon conviction.

ASP Twinamastko advised the riders to be vigilant of the passengers they always carry and ensure they move as a team as this prevents them from being attacked.
