Two male adults from Olem parish in Alerek sub-county Abim district are currently in police custody over the theft of two animals reportedly belonging to Jie herdsmen.
This follows a scuffle that ensued on Monday between the community of Olem and the said herdsmen, who accused the community members of conniving to steal their animals
According to reports, the suspects whose names have been withheld by the police, on Sunday sneaked into a kraal belonging to the Karamoong herdsmen, stole a cow and slaughtered it. They later carried the meat and started selling to community members.
Paul Obwon a resident of Olem say after a tip off from some community members, the animal owners stormed the village demanding them to produce, the stolen cow, leading to a scuffle that later led to the arrest of two suspects.
ASP Peter Akampurira the Abim District Police Commander when contacted confirmed that the suspects are in their custody, adding that they will be arraigned in court after investigations are complete.
The DPC further cautioned the locals against animal theft adding that those who will fall victims will be dealt with according.
Jie herdsmen are currently camped around Alerek Sub County, searching for water and pasture for their animals. ENDS
