At least 329 prospective Uganda peoples defense forces-recruits in Karamoja sub region have been shortlisted for the upcoming UPDF recruitment exercise scheduled to commence next month.
The 329 candidates are drawn from all the nine districts of Karamoja sub region.
According to the released shortlist, Amudat has the highest number of candidates standing 59, followed by Kotido with 57 candidates, while Moroto came third with 48 candidates. The others are Nabilatuk with 13, Nakapiripirit 34, Napak 21, Abim 47, Kaabong 36 and Karenga14.
On the 20th of May this year, the ministry of defence and veteran affairs announced a general recruitment exercise of 9, 627 regular forces in to the infantry forces. The actual recruitment exercise will commence on 1st July 2024 and end on 14th July 2024.
Through the district quota system, the exercise was subsequently rolled out to 135 districts and 11 Cities, where qualified applicants were required to submit hand written applications to the office of the RDCs and RCCs across the country.
Colonel Deo Akiiki, the deputy defense public information officer, while releasing the shortlist from the ministry of defense and veteran affairs on Monday said the candidates should now organize themselves for the next exercise that will commence on the 1st July, at the different recruitment centers
Etoil A Karamoja could not however, independently establish, how many candidates will be picked from each district to join the UPDF at the end of the recruitment exercise.
But, speaking to our reporter at the start of the exercise, Captain Chris Mike Okiria the Kaabong RDC said the district had been allocated a quota of 32 candidates.
