The North Karamoja diocese has embarked on a tree planting campaign as they gear up to celebrate the first anniversary of the second bishop of the diocese.
Rt Rev Simon Aisu Akol who became the second bishop of north Karamoja, replacing Rev James Nasak, was consecrated on the 12th –Jan -2023, and made one year in office on Monday.
To celebrate this anniversary, the diocese through its development arm, the diocesan development services (DDS-NK,) has now embarked on a tree planting campaign dubbed “GREENER NORTH KARAMOJA” that will be enforced across the different parishes
Simon Peter Ijala, the North Karamoja diocesan secretary says they embarked on the climate change mitigation activities with the aim of recovering the tree cover, due to many deforestation activities going on across, the region, adding that they will plant fruit trees seedlings like mangoes, citrus, oranges among others.
He notes that they are targeting public institutions like schools, churches and the different parishes, with each getting 50 tree seedlings
Rt Rev Simon Aisu Akol, the bishop of North Karamoja says during his one year in office, the diocese has managed to achieve a number of activities including youth trainings, mothers’ union conference, ordinations, commissioning of lay readers among others
AKol hailed the different stakeholders for the unity exhibited during his one year in office, further imploring them to support the ongoing greening campaign in order to mitigate climate change.
The ongoing tree planting campaign will be climaxed with a dinner, which is scheduled to take place on the 2nd March 2024, at Hotel De-Lamaison ENDS
