A number of schools in North Karamoja have registered a tremendous improvement in the performance of the just released 2023 Uganda Certificate of Education results compared to the previous years.
The school heads who spoke to Etoil A Karamoja radio attribute the improvement to a number of factors including commitment from the teachers, discipline from the students among others.
Kotido SS for instance registered its best performance ever according to the school authorities after they got 26 first graders of which 4 were female. Paul Kibuka the director of studies says the school has broken a record after they got more than 24 first graders ever and more than one girl in division one. He however says that results of 35 candidates were withheld by UNEB and the school is working around the clock for their release.
Juventine Okori the head teacher Kacheri SS similarly told our reporter that out of the 38 candidates who registered 7 got division one 19 division, and 7 division three. According to Okori there is an improvement in this year’s performance compared to the previous year where they got only three in division one.
Godfrey Kule the director of studies Nakapelemoru Army SS says they too had an improved performance looking at the hard conditions the school is operating on. Nkule explains that out of the 57 children who sat only 2 got first grade.
Paul Oboi the head teacher Jubilee SS Karenga says they have maintained their performance in the first grade but made an improvement in the second division. He says the students have done very well with the best getting 13 aggregates and second best getting 15 aggregates, with overall 15 in division one.
Oboi attributed this to commitment from teachers and discipline from the learners. He congratulated the students, staff and encouraged them to continuing working hard.
In Kaabong district Rose Mary Nakoli the deputy head teacher Kaabong SS told our reporter that they were yet to get their results after they were blocked. She is however optimistic that by Monday they will have had results after clearing the required monies.
Celestine Sire the Kaabong district inspector says Pope Paul has as well improved in performance compared to the previous years after they got 6 first graders.
In Abim district Sister Anna Akot the head teacher Morulem girls SS says the school has registered its best results in the last 12 years with the school getting 14 first graders, 23 in division two and 22 in division three. She attributed the good performance to cooperation, teamwork and participation among the teachers and students.
Faustine Oleit the district inspector of schools Abim told our reporter that Abim SS got 30 first graders while Otuke seed school got 6 first graders adding that he was yet to get full details of the performance from other schools.
