The constituted council members of the yet to start, Karamoja peace and technology university (KAPATU) have moved to have the university accredited by the Uganda national council for higher education. (NCHE)
This was revealed by the constituted university’s council members during a preparatory and planning meeting ahead of the visit by officials from the national council, who are set to jet into the district today Thursday.
The visit by the national council, will be to ascertained if there is enough land for the facility as well as officially register it as one of the public universities in Uganda.
Speaking during the meeting on Wednesday, Sr Dr Kaho Maria Gorreti a senior lecturer at Kyambogo University, who is also the president of the Uganda university quality assurance, and member of KAPATU technical team said there is need to have the university registered, in order to benefit the local communities
Severino Twinobusingye, the president, catholic lawyer’s society international, and the chairman KAPATU university council says accreditation is one of the steps to the operationalisation of the university.
He says after the accreditation, they will now embark on resource mobilization from the different stakeholders to see how they will kick off.
He says if accredited, they will start with a number of courses including faculty of health sciences, education, engineering, Agriculture and ICT.
Rt. Rev Dominic Eibu, the Kotido diocese during the meeting said the diocese has already offered land for the construction of the university, further pledging to work with the university council members to make sure the university is a success.
The National Council for Higher Education is mandated to regulate and guide the establishment and management of higher education institutions as well as regulate the quality of higher education, equating qualifications and advising Government on higher education matters.
