There is growing concern among the Abim town council residents in Abim district regarding the appalling state of a multi-million bus park facility that has since remained abandoned.
The parks construction commenced in 2019, but it has since stalled with incomplete structures like the waiting shade, toilet and no proper road leading to the area.
Located in Atwilo ward, Abim town council, the park now looks abandoned with overly grown bushes. The available structures are also now being utilized by locals in the area for grazing and sometimes as latrines.
Magaret Akello, a resident of Atwilo ward says the project that was meant to benefit the community, has now been left to rot with millions of tax payers money, further calling for proper accountability from the town council officials.
Godfrey Okello, the district councilor representing Abim town council, who double as the district secretary health and education, blames the issue on laxity especially by the technical wing in supervising government projects, further noting that they will hold a meeting with the town council leadership to iron out issues surrounding the bus park.
Jimmy Eric Okello, the director Akol Holdings, building and Construction Ltd a company that was awarded the contract for the construction of the waiting shade, instead accuses the district of breach of contract, claiming the district failed to clear his outstanding dues at a stipulated period of time, something he says affected the project’s completion.
However, Samuel Baker Bongluk, the Abim district secretary works and technical services says much as construction of the said park was not included in the recently passed budget, the town council authorities are currently planning to have the place worked on and utilized.
Efforts to get a comment from the Abim town council, town clerk Stella Adongo, were futile as she neither picked nor returned our repeated phone calls.
Since its inception in 2006, the district has had no bus or car park, with vehicle owners always utilizing different designated roadsides and car stages for packing
