The Abim district council has approved a new district executive committee, following months of confusion at the district

After his assumption of office on Friday, the new district chairperson, Johnny De West Ariko, subsequently nominated members of the district executive committee, who were in the same sitting approved by the district councilors.

Those elected include Godfrey Okech, councilor representing Alerek sub-county, as the new district vice chairperson, replacing John Bosco Okello, councilor representing Awach sub-county. Others include Godfrey Okello, as the new secretary health and education, Suzan Jenny Akello, as secretary production and Samuel Baker Bongoluk declared secretary works and technical services

Johnny De West Ariko, the new district chairperson says in order to come up with the nomination list, he grouped the 16 existing constituencies in to four zones, and each member of the DEC is selected from the four zones

The Abim area member of parliament, Jimbricky Norman Ochero asked the councilors to monitor the performance of the new DEC members especially on service delivery, further imploring the new DEC members to always guide the district chair where necessary

The Abim district resident district commissioner James Shilaku, says there is need for the DEC members to reorganize themselves and perform to expectation of the district

According to the local government act, the district executive committee shall among others initiate and formulate policy for approval of the council, oversee the implementation of the Government and the council’s policies ENDS
