The Teso Parliamentary Group (TPG) has unveiled its new executive leadership, aimed at fostering unity among lawmakers and propelling the development agenda for the Teso Sub-region in the next five years.

This new leadership was decided upon after a thorough vetting process overseen by a committee led by Jeje Odongo, the Member of Parliament for Orungo County, after MPs were asked to express their interest in various positions.

This committee included notable figures such as Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Alupo, Dr. Clement Kenneth Ongalo Obote (State Minister for Teso Affairs and MP for Kalaki County), Sidronius Opolot Okaasai (Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development, and Kumi County MP), and Calvin Echodu, the NRM National Vice Chairperson Eastern who also serves as Member of Parliament for Soroti City West.

Simon Peter Opolot, the MP for Kanyum County, is the new group chairperson, replacing former Usuk County MP Bosco Okiror, and he is deputized by Emmanuel Omoding, the MP for Serere County.

The other members are Peter Paul Emaju, MP for Kasilo County (Secretary General); Alfred Elalu Edakasi, MP for Kaberamaido (Treasurer); and Christine Apolot, Woman MP for Kumi District (Publicity Secretary).

Fredrick Angura, MP for Tororo South, and Jane Francis Amongin, the Woman MP for Kaberamaido District take helm of Cultural affairs while David Beecham Okwere, the MP for Bukedea County, takes up investment responsibilities.

In his maiden speech after the elections, the newly elected chairperson of TPG expressed a commitment to serve the people and the community, and vowed to foster accountable leadership aimed at promoting unity and prosperity for the people of Teso.

Vice President Alupo called on outgoing and incoming leaders to prioritize unity and collaboration over political differences for the betterment of the region, emphasizing the need to focus on development and the people’s issues, regardless of party affiliation.
