The Ministry of Health has bolstered healthcare service delivery in Kotido District with a donation of five motorcycles valued at Shs100 million, aimed at improving immunisation outreach and other essential services, especially in hard-to-reach communities.
The motorcycles, donated through Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, were officially handed over to the district’s health department held today at the district headquarters during a brief ceremony presided over by the Kotido RDC, Charles Ichogor.
Among other key district dignitaries present at the handover ceremony are Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Emmanuel Oyuku Ocen, District Health Officer (DHO) Cerino Achar, and LCV Chairperson Paul Lote Komol.
The motorcycles have been allocated to Napumpum health III, Kacheri Health Centre IV, Rengen Health Centre III, Lokitelaebu Health Centre III, and Panyangara Health Centre III to ease community outreaches and improve access to critical health services.
The health In-Charges who received the motorcycles welcomed the support, describing inadequate transport as one of the biggest obstacles to delivering timely health services in remote communities.
John Bosco Lokote Dickens, the Health In-charge at Rengen Health Centre III, applauded the Ministry of Health for strengthening frontline health service providers through improved transport.
Lokote believes that with the motorcycle now in place they would now be able to cover long-distance areas such as Kalo, Kotido, and Moru-tit resettlement, which had previously been challenging to reach due lack of motorcycle in good mechanical condition.

David Michael Ongolekol the Health In-Charge of Napumpum Health Centre III, expressed optimism that the new motorcycle will reinforce routine immunisation programmes, and enhance delivery of healthcare services, for vulnerable populations living in hard-to-reach areas.
He said that his facility has been operating without any means of transport, making it hard for them to carry out immunisation outreaches and other community health programs.

In his remarks the Kotido Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Charles Ichogoro, warned health workers against using the motorcycles for riding boda boda and instead ensure they are used strictly for their intended purpose.
Speaking in a tough tone, Ichogor, warned that those found riding doing boda boda business or going for marriage and wedding ceremonies with these motorcycles would be arrested and charged in the courts of law for misusing government property meant to help them serve the local population with ease.
