The Vice Chairperson LCV for Kotido District, Nuria Hasfa Teko, has thrown her hat into the political ring to battle for Kotido District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming January 15, 2026 elections as an independent.
Nuria who lost the two-horse race for National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket to the incumbent Margrate Aleper Achilla in July, this year was dully nominated on Wednesday by the Kotido district election administrator Julius Ogwang Ongom, setting the stage set for a competitive race.
She told this website that her move reflects growing disillusionment with the NRM party primaries which were marred with irregularities and a desire for more people-centered leadership.
Nuria grounds her manifesto on inclusive development and equity, improving education and health promising to give voice to the needs of rural households, especially women, youth, and marginalized communities.
She said that education in Kotido district was way behind compared to other districts within the Karamoja Sub-region and hinted that lobbying for construction of more learning classrooms to accommodate an overwhelming number of learners will be her focus once elected.
On health Nuria promised to use her parliamentary position to lobby for upgrade of health center IIs to reduce maternal and child mortality, citing long distances and inadequate services as key obstacles.
She emphasised that health and education will remain central pillars of his administration, insisting that the district can only prosper if these sectors are strengthened.
Nuria who has been one of the influential women in political landscape in Kotido district also highlighted the importance of building trust between leaders and citizens.
She promised regular consultations with communities to ensure decision-making reflects people’s priorities.
Simon Peter Lolimilim, Nuria’s official agent said he endorsed her because of her efforts to peace building in Kotido district.
He explained that Nuria, has been in the forefront persuading the Karachunas who are still in the jungle and terrorizing communities raiding animals to embrace amnesty.
Meanwhile, speaking after her nomination, the incumbent Member of Parliament Margaret Achilla Aleper, expressed gratitude to the people of Kotido for their trust over the past four terms and reflected on her parliamentary journey. “Now that I have been nominated for the fifth time, I am more mature and ready to serve even better,” she said.

She said her leadership will continue to address the real needs of ordinary citizens, ensure transparency in government programs, and women and youth empowerment through village savings groups.
Aleper accentuated the importance of continuity in her ongoing development initiatives, likening them to nurturing a newborn. “If nobody nurtures the child, it will die. I want to continue guiding and supporting community groups,” she explained.
She also reaffirmed her commitment to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and urged voters to safeguard the achievements made under the current government, particularly peace and development.
Some of the supporters accredited Aleper for her good leadership and interventions focused on economic empowerment.
