Pressure is mounting on Kotido District leaders to repair bad roads within the town and ensure that the town is tidy ahead of Yoweri Museveni’s visit next week as part of his one-week campaign trail in the Karamoja Sub-region.

Museveni who starts his campaign trail in the region in Abim district on Friday is expected in Kotido on Monday, the 27th of October and he will address a rally at Lomukura primary school.

Early this week, the works department embarked on periodic grading of roads within the municipality, which had reached what most residents describe as deplorable state.

Among the roads which have been worked in what residents described as a rush by the leaders to save face ahead of the president’s visit, are Prison Road, Lodon road connecting to the district headquarters, and Kaguta Road in Entebbe area.

However, the works have been hampered by the breakdown of road equipment, forcing the district to borrow from the districts of Soroti and Gulu.

While appearing on Etoil A Karamoja last Thursday, John Magezi Lukooki, the Kotido deputy RDC, said that despite the breakdown of road equipment, the preparations to host the president are in a high gear.

The information obtained by Etoil A Karamoja from credible sources, indicates that the district leaders have been busy on ground documenting the success of the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP).

On Wednesday last week the district leaders summoned all the Emyooga beneficiaries for a closed-door emergency meeting for close to two hours.

On Tuesday, the 14th of this month, the deputy RDC Magezi met with the youths whom he called the ghetto youths and encouraged them to form groups to benefit from government programs and back up Museveni’s seventh presidential bid.
