The Joint Security Forces have recovered two firearms from armed men in Moroto district as the security forces continue to enforce the Usalama Kwa Wote operation in Karamoja.

The guns were recovered from unspecified locations in Moroto district with four rounds of ammunitions last week.

According to the press briefing by the Public Information Officer 3 Division, Maj Isaac Oware, the joint security forces have arrested 7 people in connection to the firearms.

Major Oware also said the joint security forces recovered 16 heads of cattle in the districts of Nakapiripirit, Napak, Katakwi and 6 goats from Karenga district.

Since President Yoweri Museveni sanctioned operation Usalama Kwa Wote (Peace for All) on13 Jul 2021, a total of 1, 328 illegal guns cumulatively have been recovered with 9,938 ammunitions.

In the same operations, the security personnel have apprehended 29,627 Karamojong men on charges of illegal possession of firearms and theft of cattle.

At least 1,897 have since been charged and remanded by the Division Court Martial (DCM) while 1,487 suspects are being handled through civil courts.

The operation has also seen 46,281 livestock including cattle, donkeys, goats and sheep recovered and handed over to the rightful owners.
