Joint Security Forces have recovered 202 head of cattle belonging to Turkana herdsmen following coordinated cordon and search operations targeting armed cattle raiders in Kaabong District.

The operations, which commenced on November 3rd, 2026, followed recent incidents of cattle raids, theft and murders involving suspected armed Dodoth warriors targeting Turkana pastoralists grazing in the district.

According to Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police/ASTU spokesperson, security forces arrested 21 suspects and impounded 248 head of cattle during the operations.

Longole said 17 suspects whose names have been withheld were released following joint screening by security agencies, while four prime suspects remain in detention to assist security forces in recovering illegal firearms and stolen livestock.

He added that on Thursday, November 5, some suspects still at large in Kakamar Sub-county voluntarily surrendered 11 head of cattle and three donkeys, pledging to hand over more exhibits within one week.

Longole revealed that 202 head of cattle have so far been returned to their rightful owners, while 46 remain in security custody to support investigations and the recovery of illegal firearms and other exhibits.

ASP Kalisto Narucha, the Kidepo Regional Community Liaison Officer (RCLO), said the efforts to recover stolen livestock, illegal firearms and bring the perpetrators to justice are still ongoing.

He appealed to the members of the public with information about the whereabouts of the culprits to volunteer it to the police and other security agencies.
