The residents and local leaders of Rikitae and Kanair sub-counties in Kotido district are living in fear following a spike in violent attacks carried out by knife-wielding criminals.

Daniel Ilukol, the LCIII chairperson of Rikitae sub-county, says that his office has registered two cases of knife attacks in the span of one week, with the latest survivor, being Lopus Loketch, who is struggling for his life at Matany Hospital.

Loketch was reportedly attacked by two unidentified individuals on Sunday night, June 15, 2025, at Rikitae trading center.

Ilukol explains that the attackers also looted property from residents during their mission.

He further states that the new wave of knife-wielding criminals, waylaying people on the way, has caused panic among the community.

In Kanair sub-county, three cases of knife attacks have been recorded in less than a month.

The victims include Apelle Lojok, Adungo Lokoriber, and another individual identified only as Adungo, all residents of Lokoliteba Lokurio village.

The leaders are now calling on security to intensify night patrols in the area to crack down on knife-wielding criminals causing unrest in the community.

Locals have also been warned to be cautious and avoid moving alone at night, especially during this election period.
