The joint security forces have arrested over 29,000 suspected cattle rustlers in the ongoing disarmament operation across Karamoja sub-region.
In July 2021, government launched operation code named “Usalama Kwa Wote” to pacify the region, a move that has since achieved remarkable strides.
During a recent community policing talk show at Etoil A Karamoja, SP Nicholas Muyongo, Kidepo Regional ASTU Sector Commander, reported that since July 2021, 29,562 suspected cattle rustlers have been arrested.
Additionally, 1, 304 guns with 9, 856 rounds of ammunition, and 45, 664 livestock were recovered.
Of those arrested, 1, 897 were prosecuted and remanded by the court martial, 1, 487 were tried in civil courts, and the rest were released.
Muyongo, urged those still hiding illegal guns to surrender them during the amnesty period to avoid arrest.
