Livestock farmers and leaders from Napak District have decried the unending fight against the tick-borne diseases which they say are causing heavy losses and threatening the survival of their cattle.

According to them, they have for decades continued to deal with persistent tick resistance, which has paralyzed the cattle farming business in the region.

They lament that Tick-borne diseases (TBDs) have become a critical, escalating crisis in the district, leading to massive economic losses and significant cattle mortality.

Joseph Abura, one of the farmers said despite a number of interventions put in place including temporary quarantines or total quarantine for years and vaccinations, the ticks have persisted.

“Farmers are increasingly raising concerns over the failure of conventional control methods, such as acaricides, due to rising resistance and the prevalence of fake products on the market”, said Abura.

He explained that farmers are battling fake tick-control acaricides on the market, which fail to kill ticks and result in cattle deaths.
