Nakapelimen football team, the reigning Champions of the 2024, Moroto Uhuru Cup edition, and St. Daniel Comboni Polytechnic Institute’s football team have withdrawn from this year’s edition, citing financial constraints and shortage of players.

The development was confirmed by Daniel Okwii, the media personnel for the Moroto District Uhuru Cup, in an interview with our sports guru, Prosper Gibolo.

Okwii said that the management of the teams told the organizing committee that they were not a able to meet registration fee of Shs350,000 and take care of the players through the entire tournament due to lack of financial resources

He added that St. Daniel Comboni Polytechnic Institute withdrew from the tournament because most of their players were in for holidays.

Nakapelimen football team and St. Daniel Comboni Institute have been replaced by Rupa United Football Club and Veteran Football Team.

Other teams that taking part in this year’s edition, which kicked on Sunday, July 20, 2025, include; Hustlers FC, Venoms FC, Elephants FC, Maroons FC, Lokwakwa FC, and Bantu FC, all ready to showcase their strength this year.

Nakapelimen FC won last year’s edition by defeating Venoms Sports Club in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regular time play.

The Moroto Uhuru Cup is an annul football tournament held in Moroto, culminating in a final match on Uganda’s Independence Day, October 9th.
