SOUTH KARAMOJA: The territorial police in the Mt. Moroto Region are investigating two separate incidents in which two people were killed in Nabilatuk and Moroto districts.

The first incident involves the hacking to death of an eight-year-old juvenile in Ongora Village, Nabilatuk Sub-county, Nabilatuk District.

Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, said the deceased, identified as Nakoit Poicho, aged 8, a son of Edongo Ngorok, 38, a resident of Lobore Village in Abiliyep Sub-county, Amudat District, was grazing 45 calves when he was reportedly attacked by unknown suspected Karimojong raiders.

According to Longole, the attackers allegedly hacked him to death before driving away 12 of the calves to an unknown destination.

He said a joint security team visited the scene, and the deceased body was conveyed to Nabilatuk Health Centre IV mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police said efforts to identify and arrest the suspects and recover the stolen cattle are ongoing.

The second incident involves the killing of a 50-year-old woman, Nakoru Tebanyang, a resident of Nanyidik Village in Moroto District, who was allegedly assaulted.

Longole, said the deceased was on August 26, 2026, allegedly assaulted with stones by Merinyang Lomongin, aged 18, a resident of Pupu Village in Rupa Sub-county. 

Nakoru reportedly received first aid at a nearby clinic but did not receive further medical attention but she later died at her home in Nanyidik Village on October 6 at about 2:00 am.

Longole said Lomongin, the suspect in the assault that led to Nakoru’s death, had been arrested and was in police custody to assist with the ongoing investigations.
