Morulem Girls’ Secondary School in Abim Sub-county is set to host the 2026 National Physical Education (PE) Championship, with preparations reportedly in final stages, according to the organisers.
The prestigious competitions scheduled to run from October 10 to 11, bringing together hundreds of participants from across the country marks a historic milestone for Karamoja based institution.
Morulem Girls’ Secondary School, a three-time winner, was declared the host in June following an inspection of its facilities by officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports.
However, the competition was postponed following an outbreak of the Ebola virus, which affected participants, particularly those from Kigezi, Mbarara, and Bushenyi, preventing them from taking part in the competition.
With the newly confirmed dates fast approaching, Bonny Otto, the Regional Coordinator for the Karamoja Secondary Schools Physical Education Association and a national delegate to the Association of Physical Education Teachers of Uganda (APETU), says preparations are now in high gear.
He said that thy have organised sufficient accommodation for participants, good sanitation and hygiene facilities, reliable water sources and enhanced security arrangements among others ahead of the competitions.
The school organising committee comprising, school authorities, district leaders and security operatives will continue conducting several meetings alongside the Ministry of Education and Sports Secretariat to ensure all the necessitates are in place, according to Otto.
He observed that the National Physical Education Competition features both individual and team disciplines, focusing on fundamental body movements and physical fitness skills such as running, jumping, climbing, floor gymnastics, cardiovascular endurance, speed, strength, and flexibility.
