The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development with funding from The Intergovernmental Authority on Development-IGAD in Eastern Africa under the land use planning project have commenced the physical development planning process for Kacheri Town council and Kacheri Sub county in Kotido district.

The physical planning process will be implemented in the parishes of Kacheri, Napeikat, Jie-Lolelia and Lokwasanyion parishes in Kacheri Sub County and Kalogwel, Kokuwam, Lokiding and Lokoona ward in Kacheri Town council.

The physical planning process also aims at, focusing on inclusive and participatory land use planning to address land conflicts, promote peace and build climate resilience in the area, which is characterized by communal land ownership and agro-pastoralist practices.

The key aspects include mapping, land titling, and addressing cross-border land issues with neighboring countries within the Karamoja cluster

Ronald Murungi a physical planner at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development says a team of experts will for the whole of this week starting on Tuesday 18th February 2025 will be on the ground mapping the said areas.

Murungi says that after the mapping, a draft plan will then be generated and displayed to the residents for scrutiny before the final approval.

Harriet Draleru the Kotido district senior land management Officer however urged the local populace and authorities to embrace the project noting that it would pave way for lobbying for development in Kacheri Town council and Kacheri Sub County.

Draleru also noted that developing a land use plan and physical development plans for the lower administrative units in Kotido district have always been affected by financial constraints appealing to the ministry to take the mantle whenever possible.

Lieutenant David Aisu the District Internal security Officer-DISO Kotido district urged the local leaders to desist from misinforming the local population about the ongoing process clarifying that the mapping process has no intentions of grabbing anyone’s land.
