Measles outbreak has been confirmed in Kotido District, with 22 accumulated cases recorded in less than a week.
Tony Achuma, the Kotido District Senior Health Educator said that the outbreak was confirmed after blood samples of tests of five people suspected to be having measles tested positive of the disease on March 15, 2026.
He said that the patients are currently under the isolation center at Kotido General Hospital and selected Health Centre IIIs.
“We have received measles outbreak alerts from all the sub-counties and the accumulative cases in the entire district stand at 22”, Achuma disclosed.
Achuma observed that the patients suffering from measles present symptoms such as high fever, whooping cough, red swelling eyelids, muscle and body aches, irritability, and runny nose among others.
He said that the district is undertaking a number of measures to control the spread of the disease including sensitizing the public about the signs, symptoms and dangers of the disease and under immunisation programs for children.
“Plans are underway to roll out a mini-immunisation campaign against the disease and a program will be rolled out in the entire district to contain the disease from further spreading”, Achuma revealed.
He appealed to parents and guardians to take their unimmunized children under five years of age for immunisation at the nearest public health facilities.
