The community of Atirwai village in Mogol Parish Lotisan, Sub County, Moroto District is reeling from an incident in which unknown people dumped the body of an unidentified man at the entrance of their Manyatta.

Manyatta is an enclosed residential areas surrounded by sharp thorns and with small entry points where the Karamojong people live in.

The LC 3 Chairperson of Lotisan Sub County John Paul Adupa Akiki said two unknown men driving a white Land Cruiser dumped a dead body in the area on Monday and quickly fled at a high speed.

He said the occupants of the car claimed that they picked the body from Moroto Regional Referral Hospital.

The incident has since caused trauma among the residents forcing some to flee the village.

Adupa stated that over 600 residents fled to the nearby villages and trading centres after realizing that the strangers abandoned the body just outside their manyatta.

He said he had to counsel the villagers to return home but others reportedly insist a cleansing ceremony must be held before they return.
