Residents of Kotiang Parish, Rengen Sub County in Kotido district are breathing a sigh of relief as crime rates have taken a positive downturn following the operationalization of the Lominit Police Post.

The outpost that was stablished in 2023 worked for only three weeks before the personnel were withdrawn.

This left the community battling incidents of insecurity including cattle thefts, house break-ins and assaults among others.

This left residents, especially the business community in fear, with many reducing their supplies to avoid incurring losses.

The absence of a functional police outpost had also led to the rise in domestic violence, according to Loboke Apalosil, the LC1 Chairperson of Kaekar.

Loboke is relieved with the redeployment which he notes has addressed many security concerns.

Achuka Nakori, the LC 1 Kotiang Center, also noted a decline in domestic violence cases with men not battering their spouses previous months, attributing it to the outpost’s operationalization, which has reduced the distance and difficulty for women to report cases.

Simon Peter Lokwi, a Local businessman expressed his excitement that business owners now don’t have the burden of thinking of how strong their doors would be in case of break-ins, stating that he’s now reaping benefits from his sales due to the relative peace that allows people to stay out for longer periods.
