Paul Lote Komol, the LCV Chairman of Kotido District, and Peter Abrahams Irar, the incumbent Kotido Municipality mayor, have clinched the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag for the 2026 general elections.
His only challenger, Simon Peter Lodia, garnered 26,962 votes representing 48.3 percent of the total 55,716 votes cast, in an election that saw early low voter turnout in several polling stations.
Komol was declared the winner of the two-horse race early Friday morning by John Paul Namuya, the Kotido NRM District Election Officer, with 28,754 votes representing 52.0 percent.
Speaking to the media after his declaration, Komol, applauded the people of Kotido district and municipality for having trust in him and the NRM party leadership for conducting a peaceful primary election.
“I want to express my gratitude to the people of Kotido District and Municipality for re-electing me as the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming general elections in 2026. I also want to thank the district party leadership and security for conducting a peaceful election,” said Komol.
He appealed to his opponent and the voters to rally behind him in the general elections slated for January, 2026, pledging to promote unity among the party leaders and effective service delivery.
In Kotido Municipality, the incumbent mayor, Peter Abrahams Irar, retained the NRM party flag after securing a landslide victory.
He defeated the LCIII chairperson for Central Division Alex Paulsen Locham with a margin of 4,413 votes, showcasing his uncontested influence among the NRM supporters in the municipality.
According to the declared results, which Radio Etoil A Karamoja has obtained a copy, Irar polled a total of 9,188 votes against Locham’s 4,775 votes.
Peter Abrahams Irar, Paul Lote Komol, join the list of incumbent NRM Members of Parliament and LCV chairpersons who have retained the party flag for 2026, general elections.
Margaret Aleper Achilla, the Kotido District incumbent Woman Member of Parliament and Ismail Muhammad Lomwar all sailed through the recently concluded NRM primaries for parliamentary flag bearers.
However, luck was on the side of incumbent Member of Parliament for Jie County Peter Abrahams Lokwii as he lost a bid to retain the flag to Gabriel Achia Apabeeye.
