Kotido district through the department of production and marketing has intensified preparations for the upcoming farmers’ learning event.
The two-day event will be held at the district headquarters from September 21st to 22nd, 2026, according to the organisers.
Its theme will be “How anticipatory action programming can build resilience in the face of climate crisis by using farmer-led irrigation interventions as a key strategy worth popularizing across the region and the country at large”.
Benard Eriya Obin, the Kotido Senior Agricultural Officer and the district focal person for Micro Scale Irrigation Program supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAIF), said the preparatory meetings are underway.
He said that the meetings involve food security and livelihood partners, development actors, private sector players, farmer associations, media fraternity, religious and cultural institutions, and business community.
Obin said during the event, the experts from participating organisations will educate, inform, teach and nourish farmers’ hunger and quest for knowledge of cushioning from conditions that impede their optimal agricultural productivity, among others.
Paul Ernest Ochen, the programs manager of CAFRAHD Kotido field office said the farmers’ learning event comes against the backdrop of a myriad of challenges that farmers in the district contend with.
He said that despite several government interventions, farmers in Kotido district and Karamoja Sub-region as a region have endured crop and livestock diseases, and challenges posed by climate change.
These according to Ochen have made the need for accurate information an urgency, which the upcoming farmers’ learning event seeks to address to farmers’ satisfaction.
