The leadership of Kotido District, is in a dilemma on ‘what to show’ President Yoweri Museveni, as he comes to the region on wealth creation assessment tour.

President Museveni, is due to visit the region on the 3rd December – 5th December, but pressure is mounting as the leaders barely have profiled stories in the district on the president’s initiatives to fight poverty.

On Monday, the District leadership held a crisis meeting to brain storm any success stories but to no much avail, with the heads of department left scratching their heads on what to present to the top district leadership ahead of Museveni’s visit next week.

Much as the CAO, Oola Donato Olam, has tasked heads of department more so the Production officer, Robert Kennedy Okuda, and Emyooga/PDM Focal Point Person Francis Obita to identify success stories, the officers said there is little to show.

Francis Obita, the Emyooga/ PDM focal point person, in a report admitted that there was very little success in as far as Emyooga is concerned.

Mr. Okuda, on his side however, noted that there are successful farmers who are implementing micro–irrigation projects saying the farmers are producing vegetables for market and are earning on a daily. He could not readily tell how much these farmers earn per day or per year.

John Magezi Lukooki, the Kotido Deputy Resident District Commissioner, admits that the rate of progress from subsistence to commercial farming in Kotido District is indeed sluggish.

According to the tentative program, the president is set to meet with the leaders of Karamoja in Moroto before he embarks on visits to successful projects in Abim and Napak before he winds up his tour with a rally in Kotido.
