Farmers in Karamoja have been urged to proceed cautiously and grow quick maturing crops as rains resume in the sub region.

According to the June-August seasonal rain fall outlook from Uganda Meteorological Authority, rains are expected to resume this month for the forecast period in the north eastern districts where Karamoja sub region falls.
Robert Kennedy Okuda the Kotido production and marketing officer while speaking to our reporter in an interview said the region is projected to receive above normal rain fall in the months of August and September.
According to Okuda, significant rainfall is expected in the Karamoja districts of Karenga, Kaabong, Kotido, Moroto, Napak, and Nabilatuk.
He, however, cautioned that despite the current rain showers, this pattern could shift, leading to the onset of the expected dry season. He now asks farmers in the region to proceed with caution and cultivate fast-growing crops.
Okuda further urged communities staying high risk areas especially the low-lying areas to consider moving away noting that there is a likelihood of more flash floods in such areas if the region receives more rains.
