Kapelebyong District Council has approved a budget Shs20.2 billion for the financial year 2025/2026, with education, health and administration departments taking the lion’s Share.
According to the budget presented by the Secretary of Finance, Aliano Teddy and seconded by Amuko Aseri, councilor representing Akore Town Council and Akoromit Sub-county, education department is allotted Shs9 billion.
The health department received Shs3.4 billion, administration is allocated Shs3 billion while Roads and Engineering department received a substantial allocation of Shs2 billion.
Additional budgetary allocations include Finance department Shs235 million, Statutory Bodies Shs612 million, Production department Shs927 million, Water Shs723 million
Natural Resources department is allotted Shs264 million Community-Based Services received Shs180 million, Planning was allotted Shs113 million, Internal Audit secured Shs74 million and Trade received Shs86 million.
The budget is going to be funded by local revenue amounting to Shs439 million, External Financing at Shs207 million, Other Government Transfers Shs155 million and Central Government Transfers totaling to Shs19 million.
Rhoda Oroma, the Kapelebyong District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) said that the approved budget reflects an increase from Shs19,933,340,000 allocated for the ongoing 2024/2025 Financial Year, showcasing the district’s commitment to enhancing public services.
She attributed the increase to the district’s improved performance in local government performance ranking.
“In the 2023 local government assessment, we ranked 146th out of 176 local governments in the country, but we improved to 56th in the 2024 assessment, signifying our increase in the budget” Oroma remarked.
Francis Akorikin, the LCV chairperson Kapelebyong District described the budget as equitable and well-suited for serving the community.
He said the in the next financial year, the district aims to enhance the road network, improve access to clean water, and strengthen the implementation of transformational initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, among other priorities.
