Four senior officials of Kotido Municipal Council who were arrested on Friday by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the police over alleged corruption are expected to be arraigned in the Anti-Corruption Court soon.

The officials include the Town Clerk Municipal Council, Okaja Emmanuel, Okidi Gasper, the Senior Civil Engineer, the Senior Internal Auditor, Akello Deo Nyanga, and Lokure John Bosco, the Assistant Inventory Officer.

They are accused of embezzling Shs 1 billion meant for road rehabilitation and maintenance in the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

information obtained by our reporter from the Kotido police and municipal council sources indicates that the accused were transferred to Kampala over the weekend.

Miriam Natasha, the Anti-Corruption Unit said the officials allegedly misappropriated Shs 200 million meant for procuring construction materials, including 1,738 trips of gravel, 250 bags of cement, 20 trips of hardcore, and 10 trips o sand.

She explained that in addition to mismanagement of funds, the town clerk Emmanuel Okaja, and senior municipal civil engineer Okidi Gasper are face charges of neglecting their official duties by failing to supervise, monitor and ensure compliance with approved guidelines during the construction and maintenance of the several roads.

The funds under investigation were allocated for the rehabilitation and maintenance of several roads, including Miresiae–Napawu Road, Morungor–Kotyanga Road, Nangayum–Kawlapei Road, Chairman’s Road, Business Road and Romrom–Nakutakuwam Road.
