Police in Kotido District say they have arrested five suspects in connection to the gruesome murder of Kalip Ogong aka Okolej, a technician and a prominent figure in the local football scene.
Ogong was attacked on Monday night, August 25, 2025, by unknown assailants along Prison Road on his way home, from watching a football match between Liverpool and Newcastle.
The assailants reportedly carried him to his house after inflicting serious injuries on his body especially the head using a sharp object.
On Tuesday morning, August 26, 2025, Ogong was found lying in a pool of blood inside his house by his neighbours, who rushed him to Kotido General Hospital where he was referred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.
However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
Since then, police detectives have launched investigations into the tragic killing, leading to the arrest of five suspects including the deceased’s wife, who was arrested on Wednesday, 27, 2025.
While appearing on EKOKWA program on Tuesday September 2 2025, Kalistas Longole, the Kotido Liaison Officer (CLO), said the additional suspects were arrested between Tuesday, August 26, 2025 and Monday September 1, 2025.
He revealed that the suspects whose particulars have been withheld for fear of jeopardizing the investigations are being held at Kotido Central Police Station.
Longole explained the suspects will help the police with the ongoing investigations into the case.
He added that the preliminary investigations indicate the deceased (Ogong), had a domestic altercation with his wife before the fateful night.
Longole is now urging the community members to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for Ogong’s killing.
Ogong was laid to rest in Angwet-Anget, Lira City on Tuesday September 2, 2025.
The deceased who played for several clubs, including Kotido United and Vipers Kotido FC, leaves behind three children.
