The family of a 33 years man who was reportedly Knocked dead by a police officer attached to the Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Napumpum Police Post, Kotido district is demanding for a blood compensation of Shs15 Million.

Reports indicate that Corporal 48942 Geoffrey Ocen, who is currently on run knocked Lopuk Loesereng, a resident of Napumpum East village in Napumpum sub-county on Saturday April 26, 2025 at around 7:00pm.

Lochan Andrew Lono, an in-law to Lotuk says that after the accident, Ocen rushed the victim to Kotido District General Hospital for treatment but he died hours later due to excessive bleeding.

The deceased was then buried on Monday and now the relatives want compensation from the police officer for the loss of their son in accordance with the local tradition.

Adome Lopus-Ikiny, a nephew to the deceased says they have since suffered the loss of financial support from the deceased, loss of dependency for which they are seeking for compensation.     

He adds that Lotuk was the sole bread winner and has left behind 5 children-all aged below 12 years.

The village Chairperson Napumpum East, Sadam Muhammed Lokoru the LC 1 confirms the report saying they are pursuing the police officer who has since gone in hiding.

The DPC Kotido Hussein Ssekalema said that the accident has been recorded at CPS Kotido under CRB 015/2025 and investigations in to the case are underway.

When asked if police would compensate the grieving family, Ssekalema said the crime was committed by an individual, not the entire force, and the law would prevail.
