Excitement is building in Karenga district as Kapedo Seed Secondary School, a brand-new facility valued at Shs2.7 billion, prepares to open its doors for 2026 academic year.

Karenga is among the districts in the Karamoja sub-region with the lowest access to secondary education facilities.

Currently, the entire district relies on one government-aided school, Jubilee 2000 SS Karenga, which serves 1,450 students.

The new school boasts of six classrooms, a multipurpose hall, computer and science laboratories, three twin-unit teacher’s houses, modern sanitation facilities, and an administration block.

Local authorities are already forming essential committees, including the Board of Governors (BOG) and the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA), to ensure a smooth and successful launch.

Samuel Baker Abukomoe, the Secretary for Education and Health, says that preparations for the school’s opening next year are underway.

Abukomoe anticipates that Kapedo SS will alleviate overcrowding at Jubilee 2000 SS.
