In a solemn yet celebratory extra ordinary council sitting, Kotido District Councilors unanimously voted to name the district council chambers still under construction and a road stretching from Lomukura cell to Kotido-Losilang road after the late Peter Claverton Lokiru, who died on March 30, 2026.
This was during an extra ordinary council sitting held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the late’s residence in Lomukura cell, Kotido central division in honor of his contributions to Kotido district.
The motion was moved by the district Youth Councillor, Emmanuel Acheboi and seconded by Councillor William Loturkana the directly elected councilor for Central Division without objection.
Emmanuel Lodio, the Kotido district Council Speaker who presided over the council session eulogized the late as honest, hardworking and a passionate leader who had heart for Kotido.
Lodio said during his tenure as administrative secretary, Lokiru oversaw the construction of Kotido’s first permanent administrative blocks, a milestone that transformed the district’s governance capacity.
He observed that the late also championed education, personally funding scholarships for Karimojong youth, and at the time of his death, he was pushing for the establishment of the Jie Education Trust Fund to support the education of the academically bright children from the Jie community.
The Councilors highlighted these contributions as justification for the dual honor of naming the chambers where decisions are made and naming a road after him as fitting.
The newly christened “Peter Claverton Lokiru Chambers” will serve as the council’s headquarters once construction is completed and simultaneously, a stretch of the road from Lomokura passing his home to Kotido-Losilang road will bear his name.
