After days of pursuit and intelligence-led operations, police have arrested Mariko Otyang, 24-year-old who had been on the run after allegedly setting his three children on fire following a dispute with his wife, Sharon Lojore, over food in Napak district.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Otyang, a resident of Lokeru village in Lorengecora sub-county locked his three children inside their grass thatched house and set it on fire, leading to Children’s death.

The incident reportedly occurred on February 17, 2026 at around 11:00 PM.

The incident sparked immediate intervention by the area residents to try to rescue the children but in vain.

The victims were Janet Nadoli, aged 10, Emmanuel Lokong, 3 and Joan Nakodio, aged 1yr and half.

Otyang went into hiding shortly after the incident and kept on changing locations to invade arrest.

On Friday, February 20, 2026, police tracked and apprehended in Busia district, where he had been hiding.

Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the arrest, saying that the suspect is in police custody and will be arraigned in court on charges of murder.
