Ten students out of the total number of 21 students, who were selected from Kotido to join the Karamoja industrial hub in Napak district, have been disqualified.

The 21 students comprising 12 males and 9 females were recently selected from the different sub counties of Kotido to join the March intake. They are to be trained in courses like carpentry and joinery, bakery, welding, building and construction among others.

However, speaking during the district level bi annual meeting organized by MUCOBADI, to engage the youth in issues affecting them from different sub-counties, The Kotido district chief administrative officer Joseph Lomongin said out of the 21 students selected by the district, five of them were found to be breastfeeding mothers and upon thorough screening, five more people were discovered to have hepatitis.

Lomongin says they are now forced to look for more ten people to replace the ones that were disqualified from the team. He urged the youth to embrace such skilling programs in order to change their livelihoods.

The Kotido district youth Chairperson Calisto Aleper, during the same meeting called for mindset change among the youth, in order to enrich their lives. He also advised the youth to be organized and always embrace such opportunities.

Karamoja industrial hub is a presidential skilling initiative in Napak district that started last year to train youth in the different vocational skills, were 21 students without any education background are selected from every district in the region, and after the training, they are awarded UBTEB certificates.
