Religious leaders in North Karamoja region have condemned the persistent acts of cattle rustling, alcoholism and corruption that have plagued the region for years.
The clerics were speaking as they joined hundreds of Christians majorly from the Catholic and Anglican Churches in a joint way of the cross on Good Friday-a day when their savior died on the cross.
Annually, Christians all over the world commemorate this day as an important moment in the life of their faith when Jesus died on the cross to redeem them from the bondage of sin by imitating all the sufferings he went through (way of the cross)
Under the theme: “sufferings in families due to cattle raids, alcoholism, and corruption, the religious leaders of the two churches guided the congregation as they embark on the journey of their faith.
Rev. Canon John Calvin Eretu of Christ Church who opened the first station warned Christians against alcoholism which has wrecked families and has escalated violence amongst the Christian communities.
Fr. Rapheal Lobeerei who led the second station called on Christians to speak against injustices amongst the people of God Karamoja instead of condoning them.
The Bishop Emeritus of North Karamoja Church of Uganda Rt. Rev James Nasak who led the third station said the region has failed to develop due to corruption.
Rt. Rev. Dominic Eibu the bishop of Kotido catholic diocese who led the final session urged the faithful to cultivate love, and hope and embrace the cross of Christ.
