Chaos have erupted in Karenga district as hundreds of supporters of different candidates in the recently concluded NRM party primaries for Parliamentary flag bearers stormed the tally center, protesting the delayed declaration of results.
The irate supporters accused the NRM district officials of allegedly manipulating results and demanded transparency in the vote tallying process.
Although results were declared in other districts across the country between Thursday and Friday, the NRM party officials in Karenga district have not yet declared the overall winner, sparking outrage among the voters.
In video clips shared on various social media platforms, disgruntled supporters claimed that election results were changing overnight.
They expressed concerns that the information they were receiving was inconsistent with what they had previously heard.
The protesters, holding campaign posters of different candidates, overwhelmed the security personnel and managed to force their way into the tally center, however, security eventually repelled them and pushed them back.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Karenga district party officials and the Resident District Commissioner, Filbert Ocailap, who is the head of the district security committee, were unsuccessful at the time of writing this story, as our reporter’s numerous calls went unanswered.
