With time ticking down to the deadline for picking nomination forms, over 94 individuals in Kotido district and Municipality have already picked forms for the upcoming NRM party primaries ahead of the general polls.
As of Saturday morning, a total of 4 aspirants had picked forms to contest for LCV Chairperson and Mayor, 56 district councilors, and 34 for municipality councilors and Special Interest Groups (SIGs), such as Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Older Persons Representatives, Youth Councilors and Youth Chairpersons.
Notable figures are Paul Komol Lote, the incumbent LCV Chairperson Kotido district, and Simon Peter Lodia, who is seeking to unseat Lokomol.
Komol also known as Kacheri boy, and Lodia picked their forms earlier this week at the party secretariat in Kampala.
In a surprise move, Alex Locam, the LCIII of Central Division, has also picked forms to challenge Peter Abrahams Irar for the party flag for Mayorship Kotido Municipality.
Francis Longole, the Kotido District NRM party’s administrative secretary, told Etoil A Karamoja that out of the 90 aspirants who have picked nomination forms for district councilors and municipality councilor’s slots, 43 are female.
He says that the increase in women aspirants signals a growing female participation within the NRM party’s internal elections.
According to the NRM roadmap issued by the party electoral commission Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi, the deadline for picking expression of interest forms is Sunday, June 15, 2025, with official nominations expected to begin on Monday, June 17, 2025.
With just a few hours remaining to pick forms, Longole is hopeful that more people will pick nomination forms for parliamentary and local government positions.
