As the country gears up for the highly anticipated NRM primary elections, security operatives in North Karamoja have assured the public of their commitment to ensure peaceful electoral process.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries will started tomorrow with the election of parliamentary flag bearers followed by LCV chairpersons and Mayor Flag bearers on Sunday, July 20, 2025.

Speaking to Radio Etoil A Karamoja, Hassan Ssekalema, the Kotido District Police Commander said that police with other sister security agencies will deploy enough security personnel across the district to ensure a calm, incident-free elections.

With Kotido district ranked second after Ssembabule district in election related violence, the RDC Charles Ichogor, said that the security team is on high alert to avert any acts of violence, intimidation, and vote rigging.

In Karenga, the RDC Filbert Ocailap echoed similar sentiments of preparedness, confirming that several security meetings have been conducted, leading to a thorough mapping out of potential hotspots for violence.

He stated that the Police will be supported by the army where there is a shortfall to address any challenges in maintaining security.

Meanwhile, Stephen Ekoom, the RDC of Abim, stated that the district security committee is fully committed to securing the electoral process as witnessed during the Joint Campaigns.

He urged the commanders on the ground, the security forces to observe neutrality, professionalism, and strict adherence to legal standards in managing election-related security.

Meanwhile Sheikh Isa Keli Pendo, the Khadi of North Karamoja reminded the public that police, army, intelligence agencies, and civilian community are all jointly responsible for securing peaceful elections.
