A 45-year-old night watchman of Nakoreto primary school in Kotido district was on Tuesday evening gunned down by unknown assailants.
Lojok Lojera a resident of Lomejimeja village, Nakoreto parish, in Longaroe Sub-County was reportedly shot dead while inside the school fence at around 9pm.
Sidonia Akello the Nakoreto primary school head teacher confirmed the incident to our reporter saying Lojok who had just taken four months on job died on spot after he was shot on the head and chest.
Akello adds that she immediately reported the incident to the Kotido district internal security officer-DISO who responded by sending in soldiers from Lokomebu detach, unfortunately by the time they arrived Lojok had already died.

At the time of filing this story, the deceased’s body was still at the school premises and police were also yet to reach the scene.
Angello Loware the Kotido district education officer also confirmed the incident but told our reporter that he was out of the district and did not have details about the incident.
This is not the first-time armed assailants have attacked government institutions especially schools and health facilities across the district stealing as well as destroying property and killing workers.
In June 2022, Kotido district authorities withdrew all teachers from Lookorok primary school in Nakapelimoru sub county following a number of attacks on staff and school children by suspected armed Karamojong raiders. The school had been attacked four times already by the time of its closure.
In February 2023 unknown assailants attacked Kalosarich primary school in Panyangara sub-county walking away with household items after raiding the head teacher’s house.
Similarly, in March 2023 armed criminals attacked Kanawat primary school staff quarters smashing windows in the process.
