Kotido Municipality continues to grapple with glaring gaps in the road sector due to lack of road equipment, 10 years after its operationalisation.
When Kotido Municipality was operationalized in 2016, there was a lot of excitement among the local population with expectation it would help to enhance effective and equitable service delivery.
Though people have gotten jobs from various public offices in respective divisions, the road network remains a nightmare due to lack of road equipment.
Peter Abrahams Irar, the Mayor of Kotido Municipality said they depend on borrowing road equipment from the district and hiring from other neighbouring districts, which delays the implementation of road works, thus affecting service delivery.
He said that he has multiple times written to the Ministry of Works and Transport requesting for road equipment but has not received any response.
The issue of lack of road equipment came to limelight recently during the launch of a road rehabilitation project, aimed at revamping 17 community access roads to boost urbanization and mobility in the Central Business District (CBD).
Charles Ichogor, the Kotido RDC, directed the Mayor to write a letter to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), through his office requesting for road equipment to expedite road rehabilitation works in the municipality.
He issued strong warnings to contractors against shoddy work if they are to avoid being reprimanded.
