Kotido Municipality has finally constituted it’s Municipal Development Forum (MDF), a dynamic multi-sectorial platform aimed at improving service delivery, upgrading infrastructure and foster inclusive development.
The forum brings together 28 representatives from diverse community sectors, such as boda-boda riders, business owners, media, financial institutions, women’s groups, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
These stakeholders elected a seven-member executive committee comprising a president, vice president, treasurer, and other officials to spearhead the forum’s activities.
The seven member committee is led by Lina Rose Aleper as the President and deputized by Romano Kapel.
Others are Mario Mark Logwal (Secretary), Janet Achan (Treasurer), James Emma Aleper (Mobiliser), Rev. John Calvin Eretu (Publicity), and Emmanuel Lochoto (PWDs representative).
Arthur Abigaba, an official from the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, who supervised the formation of MDF, applauded Kotido Municipality for showing its commitment to benefit from Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) project by forming Municipal Development Forum.
Abigaba highlighted that Municipal Development Forum (MFD) is one of the mandatory requirements for a municipality to benefit from the Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) funded by World Bank project.
He added that municipalities must also have a well-established technical team, which includes senior officers such as Senior Planner, Senior Procurement Officer, Senior Physical Planner, Senior Commercial Officer, Senior Auditor, Senior Environment Officer, among others, in order to benefit from the project.
Lilly Lemukol, the Kotido Municipality Senior Community Development Officer said that the authorities are working tirelessly to meet all the set requitments so that the municipality is approved to benefit from UCMID Project.
She said the formation of Municipal Development Forum is a big milestone for Kotido Municipality in its quest to qualify to benefit from UCMID project.
The Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) project, is an extension of the existing Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program.
Under this project 15 municipalities are set to benefit, joining the 33 municipalities and cities already enrolled in the first and second phases of USMID program.
These municipalities unclude; Mityana, Iganga, Masindi, Rukungiri, Bushenyi-Sihaka, Kumi, Nebbi, Koboko, Kisoro, Kapchorwa, Ibanda, Njeru, Bugiri, Sheema, and Koitdo.
