Communities living in the settlements in Kacheri Sub County, Kotido District have joined other sub counties across Karamoja to demand basic services from their leaders.
The most affected are the communities living in hard-to-reach areas where common services like education, health and access to clean water are inaccessible.
Residents of Lokwasinyon, Napeikar, Jie Lolelia and Kacheri Parishes are trapped by rivers and a bad road network limiting reach to health facilities, just like the community in Lolelia South in Kaabong district.
Madelena Napuli, a resident in kacheri reported that a mother from Napeikor village in labor died on her way to Lobanya Health Centre II on Wednesday last week due to the delay caused by the poor road network.
She said the mother could not be rushed due to the appalling state of the road while Simon Peter Obote, a resident of Lokwasinyon settlement claimed another life in December, last year.
Flooding on River Kanamuget cuts has often blocked movement of people and their properties during rainy season.
The community consequently requested the Sub County district and Sub County leadership to establish schools in the area to provide education services to the thousands of children engaged in herding and farming.
The Sub County Chief Christine Aleper said the issue of poor road network had been referred to the district engineering department for action.
On schools she advised parents to take lead by opening and supporting community schools in a bid to provide access to a lot of children out of school.
