Inter-Governmental Agency for Development, IGAD has donated 1,000 tree seedlings to North Division in Kotido Municipal Council as part of a major effort to mitigate effects of climate change.

The donation follows a proposal developed by Kotido Municipal Council to the agency to green the Municipality and improve the environmental degradation.

North Division headquarters alone has been allocated 300 seedlings to be planted around the Division offices to beautify and protect its environment with tree coverage.

Each employee of the Division will be charged with the responsibility of planting and raising 10 seedlings of various types said Esther Nakolong, the Division Town Clerk.

Among the species donated include fruit trees, ornamental or evergreen trees said Nakolong in an interview on Monday at the Division offices.

She added that 700 trees seedlings are set to be given to the women who are in saving groups. She said the women were chosen because of their resilience and reliable on demanding tasks like watering of the tree seedlings during dry period.
